Yu-Gi-Oh! has been one of the world's most popular trading card games for decades, and Spain has an active, passionate community. However, if you have just returned to the game after years away or moved to a new city, it can be hard to find where people play. The community is there, but you need to know where to look.

This guide covers every channel where you can find Yu-Gi-Oh! players near you, both for playing and trading cards.

1. Specialist TCG stores: the main meeting point

Trading card stores are the heart of the local Yu-Gi-Oh! community. Most host weekly tournaments - usually on Fridays or Saturdays - where the most active players in the area gather. Even if you do not compete, they are the perfect place to meet people, ask about trades and learn about upcoming events.

To find official stores in your area, use Konami's store locator, the company behind Yu-Gi-Oh!. Stores registered as Official Tournament Stores (OTS) are the most active competitively.

Tip: When you visit a store for the first time, ask whether it has a WhatsApp or Telegram group for players. Most do, and that is where registrations, informal trades and meetups are coordinated.

2. Official Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments in Spain

Konami organizes several tournament levels that bring many players together:

• OTS Tournaments: weekly local tournaments at official stores. The most accessible level for beginners.
• Regional Championships: held several times a year in different Spanish cities. They bring together the best players in the region.
• YCS (Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series): Europe's largest tournaments. They are often held in cities such as Madrid or Barcelona and attract thousands of players. They are perfect for large-scale trading because they have a dedicated trading area.

Discord

Reddit

The r/yugioh subreddit is very active, although mainly in English. For the Spanish community, look for r/yugioh_es or forums such as Clanhouse.es, which has historically been a hub for the Spanish Yu-Gi-Oh! community.

If you specifically want to trade Yu-Gi-Oh! cards with someone in your city, TradeMatches shows active collectors near you on a map, including the cards they have available and the ones they want. It is especially useful for banlist cards: many limited or semi-limited cards have very specific demand that is difficult to satisfy in general groups.

5. The banlist: key to understanding the Yu-Gi-Oh! community

Unlike other TCGs, the banlist has a huge impact on which Yu-Gi-Oh! players are active and which cards circulate in trades. Konami updates the list of forbidden, limited and semi-limited cards several times a year, and each update sends many players looking for or getting rid of cards quickly.

Keeping up with the banlist lets you anticipate which cards will soon be in demand. Always check the current banlist in Konami's official database.

6. WhatsApp groups run by local stores

Generic WhatsApp groups may be reluctant to allow spam, but customer groups for specific stores are different: they consist exactly of players from your area who already share an interest in the game. They are the most direct way to arrange informal local trades without waiting for the next tournament.

To join, simply visit the store and ask to be added to the group.

What to bring when looking for players

• A list of your cards available for trade - use a note on your phone or a printed sheet.
• A list of the cards you want, including the specific set if it matters. Some cards have versions from different print runs with very different prices.
• Cards in sleeves, with toploaders for the most valuable ones.
• Cardmarket or YGOPRODeck open so you can check prices on the spot.
