How to prepare for your first TCG event: cards, gear and basic etiquette

Read: 7 min

Your first TCG event can feel intense because of the number of cards, rounds and new people. A short checklist the day before helps you focus on playing, learning and meeting the community.

Confirm the format and schedule

Read the organiser’s information: registration time, format, number of rounds, required supplies and whether trades are allowed. If you do not know a rule, ask before the round starts.

Bring only what you need

Prepare your trade binder

Sort cards by game or set and keep a list of what you want visible. Do not interrupt a match to negotiate: wait for breaks and ask whether the other person has time.

Respect the space and the community

Arrive on time, respect organiser decisions and communicate mistakes calmly. Do not touch someone else’s binder without permission, and return cards to the same place after reviewing them.

After the event

Record what you traded, update your lists and keep contacts for people you would like to meet again. The goal is not only to win: it is also to leave with more experience and a community to return to.

YOUR NEXT TRADE
