Compare complete routes when submitting cards to CGC from Spain: managing the submission yourself or hiring a middleman. A per-card grading fee is not the final cost. Establish who holds the cards at each stage, which form applies, how they return and which expenses are included.

The routes change who manages the process

With a direct submission, you prepare the application, choose the service, identify the copies and arrange the relevant transport. A middleman performs agreed tasks under their offer. Being a middleman does not automatically mean being an official CGC representative or providing standardised coverage.

Card count is only one consideration. Your experience with forms, the parcel route, progress information and agreed responsibilities matter too. Request a process description before comparing an advertised headline price.

This is a comparison procedure, not a ranking of providers. Either route can be clear or poorly documented, depending on the actual arrangements.

Check the account and submission platform

CGC's submission page checked on 9 October 2026 allows a free account. Do not assume a paid membership is universally required. Compare paid-tier benefits separately.

Services, tiers and declared values affect the submission. The newer simplified platform also directs certain add-on, autograph and resubmission services to specific forms. Confirm you are using the right workflow before preparing the batch.

Do not reuse a PSA form by changing the company name. Two companies grading cards does not make their categories, labels, packing rules or returns identical.

Request an itemised quote

Use exactly the same card list for both routes. This prevents comparing a basic service for one batch with a different service for another. Record game, name, set, card number, language and finish for each copy.

Ask for grading, handling, outward transport, return, coverage and any expected international-route expenses as separate entries. For another currency, establish how the effective euro payment is determined and who bears changes. Do not insert an exchange rate from memory.

“All included” still needs a definition. Does it cover shipping from your home, return to you, service surcharges and relevant formalities? Mark anything not yet specified as pending rather than assigning it a zero cost.

Declared value and coverage need evidence

Retain the evidence supporting the described value: copy identity, prior condition and available documents. An asking price for a different edition or condition is not automatically comparable. Follow the form and service terms for the declaration.

CGC distinguishes its return arrangements from returns using the submitter's own FedEx or UPS account: the latter are not insured by CGC. Naming the courier is therefore insufficient. Identify who provides coverage and which transport leg it covers.

For a middleman, establish when each custody period starts and ends. There may be shipping to the middleman, onward shipping and a later return. A statement about “international insurance” does not necessarily document all those movements.

Identify every copy before dispatch

Give each copy a simple ID such as CGC-01. Photograph front and back, record the card number and describe existing visible marks. Two identical names on a list do not distinguish physical copies if a discrepancy later arises.

Those photographs document identity and observable condition; they do not guarantee a grade. Do not manipulate a card to make the record show a condition different from what you are actually sending.

Keep the form, inventory and delivery evidence. When using a middleman, request a receipt listing the cards, not just “parcel received.” Delivery of a package and verification of its contents are different confirmations.

Follow current packing instructions

CGC's card instructions specify protective sleeves, semi-rigid holders and cardboard larger than the cards. They also request packing-slip order. Read the full current instructions for your submission before sealing the box rather than inventing an order that complicates identification.

Use the address and details generated for your application. Your location does not prove that every European office accepts it, and an old listing does not establish the current destination. Resolve conflicting directions with CGC or the person responsible for the application before shipping.

The actual international route may require documentation. Ask what applies to your goods and journey. This guide supplies neither a universal customs charge nor a tax treatment guaranteed by calling the parcel a grading submission.

Separate estimated stages from promises

Request estimates for receipt, application creation, dispatch, processing and return. A service turnaround figure does not necessarily include a middleman's batch-assembly time or every transport leg.

If you need the cards for an event, record the deadline and what happens if the return is later. A fast service does not guarantee a particular grading result. Consider whether you can do without the cards for longer than expected.

As a comparison exercise, one collector submits three cards and another fifteen. Each calculates the complete cost for the requested service, then divides by card count. A fixed fee does not disappear; the calculation explains why per-card averages can differ even before comparing service terms.

Reconcile the returned batch

Compare identities, quantities and labels with the original application. Document any discrepancy before discarding packaging. A label mismatch and transport damage are different issues and should be described separately.

Retain the record even if the grades disappoint you. Disagreeing with an evaluation does not prove a logistics error. Identify the service purchased and the official procedure before deciding whether to request another process.

Frequently asked questions

Is a paid CGC membership required?

The platform checked permits a free account. Verify the particular service and compare paid benefits separately.

Does a middleman remove all international expenses?

Do not assume that. Request written scope identifying included, excluded and pending charges.

Does the grading fee automatically include an insured return?

Do not infer cost or coverage from one isolated figure. Check the return configuration and who arranges each leg.
