Trading Pokémon cards lets you seek a specific copy using cards another collector wants. Success depends on compatible lists, versions and agreement; a trade is not always cheaper or faster than buying a single.

Prepare two lists with identified copies

List only cards you can deliver as available. Specify set, number, language and finish in your wanted list. Reserve copies for decks and your collection. Regular and reverse copies sharing a number are not interchangeable when collecting every variant.

Find a compatible person or activity

Compare collector lists, ask stores and use the official Pokémon event locator. Confirm authorized trading spaces and times with the organizer; tournament registration does not grant permission to trade.

TradeMatches provides lists, potential matches, approximate proximity and chat as described in its download listings. A match starts a conversation; it does not authenticate cards or guarantee availability. The Barcelona and Madrid guides provide local meeting references.

A verifiable opening proposal

I have two copies of [code and number], Spanish, regular finish, with condition photos. I want [code and version]. Is yours still available? If it fits, let us inspect the copies and agree on the lot before traveling.

Decide whether you accept a different version before negotiating value. Do not automatically take unwanted cards merely because their asking-price total is higher.

Compare without promising prices

Use dated references for the same version, language and condition. Distinguish listings from completed sales and account for expenses separately. Rarity, popular characters and age do not guarantee demand. Acknowledge insufficient comparisons and decide whether the trade remains useful.

Inspect, exchange and update

  1. Agree on a suitable public venue and inspect both lots before delivery.
  2. Check backs, edges, finish and quantities without damaging cards.
  3. Pause over unresolved differences even if you have already traveled.
  4. Remove outgoing cards and acquired wants from your lists afterward.

Use the related checklist to prepare the meeting. Postpone a trade if authenticity remains uncertain and consult official guidance; a quick visual inspection does not certify a card.
